Feral: Welcome to the graveyard
22/10/09 || Euthanatos
I enjoyed Feral’s previous demo, “Graverobber”, a whole fucking lot, so as soon as I saw their new demo was up for grabs, I jumped at the opportunity. Is “Welcome to the Graveyard” as good as “Graverobber”? Fuck, it’s even better!
You know, if I think about it, Feral baffles me. Why are these guys unsigned? Worst yet, why are they still releasing demos? Unless you’re doing a Torture Division deal (trilogies that eventually see a release in full-length form), I don’t get it. This is simply too good to be a demo. The production is über professional, the song-writing kicks major ass, and the band is as fun as asphyxiated masturbation. Unless you die, of course. That would suck.
First of all, I love the vocalist on this fucker. His name is Hook. How fucking awesome is that? Hook not only is the name of one of the greatest villains of our youth (well, my youth, fuck you, Pokemon-watching retards), it’s also a killer weapon for maiming, dismembering, raping and shit. And what’s even better, his vocals kick so much ass. He reminds me a lot of J. (again, Torture Division, The Project Hate), mixed with a little Jan-Chris De Koeijer (Gorefest), and that’s the highest compliment I can gave, really.
The guitars are down-tuned and heavy like a motherfucker, and the drumming is pretty intense, even if it never goes to ultra-Krisiun-light-speed. And you know what? THAT IS OKAY. The drummer’s name is Damien, therefore he’s the son of SATAN, therefore he is automatically awesome for that as well. And while I’m riding the nuts of the production, major, major props to the bass sound, which I love. Just the perfect pitch, crunch, mayo and soy sauce. Fuck yeah.
Overall, Feral play something we could neatly fit into the “death n’ roll” category, so famously spread to the world via Entombed (a band I think is fucking underrated and brilliant as shit). But, like Entombed, Feral, at least on this demo, goes more the way of traditional death metal, and there is certainly nothing wrong with that.
No bad songs on this little critter from hell, “The Curse of the Casket” being my favorite, though. Desperate and menacing, just the way we like it.
Someone, be so kind as to sign these fuckers. Actually, you fuckers from the band, stop making demos and give us an album already. Fucking tour and shit. The world deserves Feral.
The cover: Some wicked ass skeleton risen from the crypts. Neat shit.
